Reporting Templates

We give you access to a variety of multilingual and intelligent reporting templates that can be used to create a well-organized report on a specific organ within a minimal amount of time. Based on the information provided, only the relevant questions and fields are continuously displayed in the form. Since we continuously update the provided forms, the generated reports always comply with the current international standards (WHO, ICCR).

Celerato

Celerato is a Swiss software company that enables structured reporting in pathology. Its roots lie in the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF)-funded research project “PathoLink” (2017–2020), a collaboration between Switzerland’s university pathology institutes. Within the framework of this project, the SynReport™ software was developed to enable the creation of standardized pathology reports and thereby facilitate the exchange and cross-institutional use of pathology data. Following the completion of the project, Celerato was founded to ensure the long-term development of SynReport™ and to actively promote the adoption of structured reporting in pathology.

SynReport™ Tool

With a SynReport™ license, you gain access to software for creating standardised pathology reports. The underlying information is captured in a structured manner through intelligent reporting templates, enabling the generation of high-quality datasets alongside routine diagnostics, while also allowing data to be imported from and exported to connected systems. In addition, SynReport™ offers numerous supporting features and configuration options. The software is preferably installed on-premises but can also be deployed in the cloud.

Reporting Templates

We provide a wide range of intelligent reporting templates for histopathological reporting across a broad diagnostic spectrum, including invasive, non-invasive, and hematolymphoid diseases. In addition, templates are available for cytopathology and molecular pathology. The templates are based on current international standards and support structured, guideline-compliant reporting. Supporting features such as plausibility checks, rule-based derivations, and automatic coding promote consistent data capture and report generation.

Template Updates

Our standard templates are continuously updated to ensure ongoing compliance with current international standards, particularly those issued by ICCR, WHO, and UICC TNM. Template updates are supported by quality assurance features (see Reference Reports), helping to prevent unintended changes to report structures.

Integration with External Systems

SynReport™ is already integrated with the laboratory information systems (LIS) most commonly used in Germany and Switzerland and provides a flexible interface for connecting additional information systems. Through this integration, structured reporting can be performed directly from within the LIS. Case information is transferred automatically, the appropriate template is loaded, and generated reports are returned to the desired location within the LIS.

Custom Configuration

Our standard templates and the resulting reports can be adapted to the specific requirements of your organisation through a wide range of customisation options (see Template Customisation). These customisations can either be performed by the customer or requested from Celerato. The SynReport™ software itself can also be optimised for specific user needs through extensive configuration options.

Customer- or country-specific forms can be commissioned from Celerato. In addition, software extensions can be developed according to the requirements of your organisation.

Befundungsformulare

Die Befundungsformulare bilden das Herzstück von SynReport™. Für die Histopathologie steht eine umfangreiche Auswahl organspezifischer und präparatebezogener Vorlagen zur Verfügung, ergänzt durch Zytologie- und Molekularpathologie-Formulare.

Die onkologischen Histopathologie-Formulare basieren, wo verfügbar, auf den aktuellen Datensätzen der International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR) und unterstützen eine standardisierte und qualitativ hochwertige Berichterstattung.

Die Formulare führen den Benutzer durch den Befundungsprozess, indem relevante Eingabemöglichkeiten kontextabhängig angezeigt werden. Vollständigkeitskontrollen, Konsistenzprüfungen und intelligente Abhängigkeiten zwischen Eingabefeldern unterstützen die Berichterstellung zusätzlich.

Zahlreiche Datenpunkte sind mit den entsprechenden SNOMED CT-Konzepten verknüpft. Für onkologische Befunde werden Tumortyp und -Lokalisation zudem automatisch ICD-O-kodiert, woraus auch der jeweilige ICD-10-Code abgeleitet wird.

Formular-Customisation

Die Customisation-Funktionalität ermöglicht eine standortspezifische Anpassung der Formularvorlagen und der daraus resultierenden Berichte.

Unter anderem können Fragen und Antworten ein- oder ausgeblendet, Standardwerte definiert, alternative Logikvarianten aktiviert sowie zusätzliche lokal erforderliche Codes hinterlegt werden. Besonders flexibel gestaltet sich die Anpassung der Berichtsausgabe: Aufbau, Reihenfolge, Inhalte und Formulierungen sowohl des synoptischen Berichts als auch der kompakten Zusammenfassung können individuell konfiguriert werden.

So lassen sich die SynReport™-Berichtsvorlagen optimal an lokale Prozesse, Terminologien und Berichtsstandards anpassen.

Statistik-Export

Die Statistik-Ansicht ermöglicht den manuellen Export der in SynReport™ erfassten und lokal gespeicherten strukturierten Daten – sei es zwecks Forschung, Qualitätsmanagement, oder sonstigen datenbasierten Analysen.

Fälle können als CSV-Dateien oder als FHIR QuestionnaireResponse exportiert werden. Zwei Exportmodi stehen zur Verfügung:

1. Export nach Fragen – optimiert für klassische statistische Auswertungen und tabellarische Analysen.

2. Export nach Antworten – optimiert für robuste Langzeitanalysen über unterschiedliche Formularversionen hinweg.

Die exportierten Daten können anschliessend im Programm Ihrer Wahl gefiltert, aggregiert und in Analyse-, Statistik- oder AI-Plattformen weiterverarbeitet werden.

Formular-Manager

Der Formular-Manager dient als administrative Verwaltungsoberfläche für die Befundungsformulare. Hier können alle verfügbaren Formulare eingesehen, Versionen verglichen, Änderungen nachverfolgt und Formularfreigaben vorgenommen werden.

Darüber hinaus bildet der Formular-Manager den zentralen Einstiegspunkt für formularspezifische Aufgaben. Von hier aus kann direkt auf die zugehörigen Ansichten für Formularentwicklung, Formular-Customisation, Referenzberichte und Schnellanwahlen zugegriffen werden.

Der Formular-Manager bildet damit die zentrale Schaltstelle für die Governance, Qualitätssicherung und Weiterentwicklung der Formularbibliothek.

Interoperabilität

SynReport™ wurde für eine nahtlose Integration in bestehende Systemlandschaften entwickelt. Das System ist bereits in mehrere Laborinformationssysteme (LIS) integriert und kann über eine flexible REST-Schnittstelle effizient an weitere LIS-, IMS- und Drittsysteme angebunden werden.

Klinische Angaben, Daten aus Vorbefunden, AI-basierte Messergebnisse sowie molekularpathologische Informationen können automatisiert übernommen und direkt in die strukturierten Befundungsformulare eingefügt werden. Umgekehrt lassen sich die strukturierten Daten gezielt für umliegende Systeme, Krebsregister, Forschungsplattformen oder Qualitätsmanagement-Analysen bereitstellen.

Unterstützt werden unter anderem HL7, FHIR, REST, SOAP, Datenbankanbindungen sowie XML-, JSON- und CSV-basierte Datenaustauschformate.

Referenzberichte

Referenzberichte unterstützen die Qualitätssicherung und Validierung von Formularänderungen, Konfigurations-Anpassungen und Software-Updates. Für jedes Formular können beliebig viele Referenzberichte definiert werden, um unterschiedliche diagnostische Konstellationen und daraus resultierende Berichtsvarianten möglichst breit abzudecken.

Vor einer Freigabe werden die hinterlegten Referenzberichte automatisiert sowohl unter den bisher freigegebenen als auch unter den neuen Rahmenbedingungen verarbeitet. Unterschiede in den resultierenden Berichtstexten werden hervorgehoben und können gezielt überprüft werden.

Erkannte Abweichungen können anschliessend bewusst freigegeben, durch Anpassungen der Konfiguration korrigiert oder direkt aus der Anwendung heraus an den SynReport™-Support gemeldet werden.

Formular-Editor

Mit dem Formular-Editor können vollständig personalisierte Formularvorlagen erstellt werden, wobei auch einzelne Komponenten aus bestehenden Standard-Formularen übernommen werden können.

Das intuitive UI ermöglicht die Definition von Fragen, Antwortoptionen, Ausgabe im Berichtstext, logischen Abhängigkeiten und medizinischen Codes.

Dadurch können Institute oder Organisationen eigene Formulare eigenständig entwickeln und verwalten. Auch für die Datenerfassung zu spezifischen Forschungs-Fragestellungen bietet sich dieses Feature sehr gut an.

Schnellanwahlen

Mit den Schnellanwahlen können häufige Standardkonstellationen pro Formular hinterlegt und beim Ausfüllen abgerufen werden. Vom Konzept her nicht unähnlich zu den klassischen Textbausteinen in der Pathologie, mit dem Unterschied, dass dabei jedoch nicht nur Texte eingefügt, sondern strukturierte und standardisierte Daten erfasst werden.

Mit Hilfe dieser Funktionalität können wiederkehrende Teile von Berichten mit einem einzigen Klick erstellt werden, und es müssen nur noch wenige Ergänzungen vorgenommen werden.

Dadurch wird eine schnellere Dokumentation von Routinefällen ermöglicht, während gleichzeitig die Vorteile strukturierter Befunddaten erhalten bleiben.

Report Manager

Der Report Manager ermöglicht die Erstellung und Verwaltung von Berichten auch ohne bestehende LIS-Integration. Dadurch kann SynReport™ bereits produktiv oder zu Evaluationszwecken eingesetzt werden, während Integrationsprojekte noch laufen.

Erstellte Berichte können gespeichert, später erneut geöffnet und weiterbearbeitet werden. Befundtexte lassen sich bei Bedarf via Copy-Paste-Funktionalität manuell in externe Systeme überführen.

Der Report Manager eignet sich sowohl für Pilotprojekte und Testumgebungen als auch für Installationen, bei denen bewusst auf eine direkte LIS-Anbindung verzichtet wird.

Breast Biopsy Reporting

This demo shows the structured reporting of a breast biopsy with an additional lymph node biopsy in SynReport™. The template is completed on the left-hand side, while both a concise summary and a full synoptic report are generated in real time on the right.

The demo illustrates how questions and answer options are displayed or hidden dynamically based on context, ensuring that only relevant information is requested. During data entry, logically dependent values can be preselected automatically according to predefined rules (indicated by a blue dot next to the respective field, for example the grade automatically derived from the individual scores). Default values can also be configured and prefilled automatically (indicated by a black dot, shown here for the microscope field diameter). Towards the end of the demo, the view switches from the breast biopsy specimen to the lymph node specimen.

The template and generated report are displayed in English for demonstration purposes; however, SynReport™ content is available in multiple languages.

Colon Resection Reporting

This demo shows the structured reporting of a colon resection specimen in SynReport™. At the beginning, it demonstrates how multiple data points can be entered with a single click using an institution-specific Quick Select (here for specimen information and tumour location).

The demo further illustrates several features that support quality assurance, including the identification of mandatory questions, warnings for clearly inconsistent entries, alerts when attempting to complete an incompletely documented case, and direct navigation to missing information. Additional explanations for individual fields can be accessed through integrated tooltips. In addition to the report text itself, the demo also shows the automatic generation of the corresponding ICD codes and pTNM classification.

Both the templates and the generated reports are fully configurable and can be adapted to the requirements of the respective organisation.

SynReport™, a tool for structured reporting in pathology (cancer/non-cancer, including cytopathology). Our software features highly-adaptive, touchscreen-compatible user interfaces and is capable of integrating information directly from electronic orders and analytical devices.

A variety of intelligent web-based forms that guide the pathologist along organ-specific decision trees through the creation of a report. We provide ready-to-use forms that are created based on templates from the International Collaboration on Cancer Reporting (ICCR), but forms can also be customized if needed: form elements can be added or hidden, and ready-made text modules can be modified. The forms are provided in multiple languages and are regularly adapted to the latest standards. We are continuously developing additional forms based on the published ICCR templates, and are also happy to produce customer-specific forms on request.

A statistics tool for downloading the data generated in the background, in which initial statistical evaluations can also be performed. All data resulting from the use of the report forms belong to the customer. Celerato concludes contracts according to the general terms and conditions of the Swiss IT Conference.
Our software generates formatted medical reports in text form, including the appropriate medical codes (WHO ICD-O 3.2, SNOMED CT, UICC TNM) based on the selected elements, as well as raw data and filterable statistical data for research purposes and further analysis using artificial intelligence (AI).

If you choose the cloud solution, this meets all the requirements and you can get started right away. If you prefer to install on-site (on-premises), a server with installed operating system (Windows or Linux), a SQL database (SQLServer or PostgreSQL) and the possibility of remote access for support purposes are also required.
Time and cost savings: creating a report using our forms is significantly faster and less expensive than creating it in the traditional way (dictation and transcription). In addition, because we update the forms on an ongoing basis (see next item), clinicians who use our service no longer necessarily have to be concerned with the constantly changing standards. Last but not least, the instructional nature of our solution also makes it much less time-consuming to train prospective doctors.

Improved report quality: our forms are regularly adapted to the latest versions of the ICCR form templates, as well as to the latest edition of the UICC TNM, so that the reports always comply with the current standards at the time of creation. In addition, automatic text generation and import of analysis data helps eliminate clerical errors and misunderstandings.

Improved data quality: reports generated using our forms contain easily accessible, standardized data. This greatly simplifies the statistical analysis of medical data, which of course has enormous potential, especially for research purposes. The codes generated in the background can also be automatically sent to other data processors (e.g. HIS, cancer registries) on a standard basis.

Implementation levels of structured reporting.

SynReport™ is a tool for structured reporting of level 6. These stages/levels are described and visualized in detail in the image "Structured Reporting - Levels of Implementation". To highlight the differences, the defining properties of levels 1-6 are also listed below (the features of the previous levels are included in each of the subsequent levels).
